When taking a course with Gallagher Bassett, you may notice that some lessons are marked as Locked. This article explains what those locked statuses mean and what actions you should take to continue progressing through your course.
Why Are Lessons Locked?
Lessons are locked to ensure learners complete content in the correct order and meet course requirements. Locked lessons typically fall into one of the scenarios below.
Locked: “Please take unlocked lesson”
What this means
If a lesson shows Locked / Please take unlocked lesson, it means a required lesson before it has not yet been completed.
In most courses, lessons must be taken sequentially. You cannot open the next lesson until the earlier one is completed (for example, viewing the full lesson or completing a required activity).
What you should do
- Scroll up to find the most recent lesson that is not locked
- Open and complete that lesson
- Once completed, the next lesson will unlock automatically
What it looks like
Locked Due to Maximum Number of Attempts Reached
What this means
If a lesson is locked and indicates that the maximum number of attempts has been reached, this means:
- You already accessed and completed the lesson
- That lesson does not allow you to access it again after completion
- No further action is required for that lesson
This is common for single‑view lessons designed to be taken only once.
What you should do
- Move on to the next available lesson
- Start the next lesson that is unlocked in the course outline
You are not prevented from completing the course—this lock simply indicates that the lesson has been completed.
What it looks like
Example: Locked Lesson with Prerequisites
In the example below, multiple lessons show:
- Locked / Please take unlocked lesson
- A warning message indicating Lesson with prerequisites
This means the course must be completed in order, starting with the first available lesson at the top of the syllabus.
Only one lesson can be active at a time, and each lesson unlocks after the previous one is completed.
Common Questions
I completed a lesson, but the next one is still locked
Try the following:
- Refresh the page
- Ensure the lesson was fully completed (not just opened)
- Check if the lesson status shows as completed or in progress
- If the lesson status shows as in progress: You need to complete the lesson
If the issue persists, contact support.
Can support unlock a lesson for me?
In most cases, locked lessons are enforced automatically by course settings and cannot be manually unlocked. You must complete the required lesson(s) in order.
