⛔ General “NOs” for Proctoring (Important!)
To maintain the integrity of the course and avoid being logged out automatically, please be aware of the following:
🚫 The first photo you take is the most important, as it is used to verify your identity throughout the session.
✅ Ensure your face is fully visible
- Do not wear hats, scarves, masks, or other items that cover any part of your face
- Hair should not cover your eyes or face
- Remove unnecessary accessories that obstruct facial features
✅ Look straight into the camera
- Position the camera at eye level
- Keep your face centered and fully within the frame
- Do not tilt your head or angle the camera
✅ Use proper lighting
- Avoid dark or poorly lit rooms
- Ensure light is in front of you, not behind
- Do not sit with bright windows or lamps directly behind your head
- Uneven lighting or strong shadows can distort your image
✅ Choose a suitable environment
- Use a stable camera surface (no shaking or handheld devices)
- Sit against a neutral, uncluttered background
- Avoid reflective surfaces (mirrors, glass, glossy walls) behind or near you
⚠️ Common Image Distortions to Avoid
- Glare from glasses (tilt lights or adjust screen brightness)
- Low‑resolution or dirty camera lenses
- Extreme camera angles (from above or below)
- Background motion (fans, TVs, people walking behind you)
- Headphones or headsets covering facial features
🚫 Do NOT look away from camera for an extended period of time
🚫 Do NOT leave the training running unattended
If you walk away from your computer while the module remains open, proctoring may detect inactivity and log you out automatically. This system behavior is expected and working correctly.
If you need to step away from your computer/training: Please log out and log back in when you are ready to resume your course.
🚫 Do NOT switch to different browser windows/tabs, or other applications on your computer (email, messaging apps, etc.)
Your safety training requires your attention. Proctoring requires your full session to remain active and visible. Switching to another window or application can trigger a logout for security reasons.
🚫 Do NOT assume you can pause mid‑module
Proctored modules cannot be paused during the active section. If you need a break, finish the current section first the log out. Our courses are split into short modules/sections which allows students to take brakes in between.
⭐ You will be required to take a picture at the beginning of each module/section in order to confirm your identity per the requirements of the NYC DOB.
⭐ Proctoring Requirements for Training Academy Courses
Training Academy courses include proctored courses and assessments to verify learner identity and ensure course integrity. This guide outlines the recommended setup and supported devices to help you avoid technical issues during a proctored session.
💻 Best Experience: Desktop or Laptop (Strongly Recommended)
For the most reliable and trouble‑free proctoring experience, use a desktop or laptop computer.
Supported Desktop/Laptop Browsers
Proctoring works best when using one of the following browsers:
- Google Chrome
- Mozilla Firefox
- Microsoft Edge
- NOT SUPPORTED: Safari Browser
These browsers provide the highest compatibility with proctoring features such as camera access and session monitoring.
✔ Recommendation: Always take proctored courses on a desktop or laptop using Chrome, Firefox, or Edge for the best results.
📱 Mobile Devices (Supported, but Not Recommended)
Proctoring can run on mobile devices, including:
- The Training Academy Mobile App (Go. Learn)
- Mobile Chrome Browser
- NOT SUPPORTED: Mobile Safari Browser
However, mobile proctoring may result in:
- Camera permission failures
- Screen-size limitations affecting course visibility
- Increased instability during long modules
- Interruptions from notifications, calls, or background apps which may cause log-out.
⚠ Note: If you must use a mobile device, ensure you have a strong internet connection, full battery, and all notifications disabled.
🎯 Summary: What You Should Do
To ensure a smooth experience with no noticeable issues:
- Use a desktop or laptop whenever possible.
- Choose Chrome, Firefox, or Edge as your browser.
- Avoid mobile devices unless absolutely necessary.
